My First Love: A Poem

my first love

the poem every girl should read

i wrote this poem in college in 1995, it is one of my favorites
. . .inspired by my friend who later became my first love . . .

for if you love a man and you are unsure if he loves you
show him that love in all that you do
but do not crowd his space
for it is in that gift of space that he must
see your love with his own eyes
when he sees this love he may be afraid
be calm
for we are all afraid of love sometimes . . .
remember that you to were once afraid of that love until
you found peace in your heart and assurance through your patience
this is when you must not back down and doubt your love
because it is this time when he may or may not reciprocate his feelings
remember again that he is afraid
also remember that he is testing your love so that he is sure it is true
for if it is not true and he loves you he will feel like a fool
and be your friend no more
keep your love true in patience, and understand that only
time will open the window to see in his heart
by trusting your own heart and feelings you will soon
learn to trust the honesty of his heart and feelings
if what you see is true, be happy
if what you see if false, be strong
for this is when you will find yourself weak
weak to please
weak to change
weak to do anything to make him love you
do not fall for your weakness
for it is your strength that has gotten you this far
it is your strength that will allow you to love again
it is your strength that will allow you to continue to love . . .
